POC / Trial Guide

A Rilla POC validates deflection, playback stability, integration viability, and rollout readiness under live traffic.

ScopeObjectives
In scope
  • Validate CDN deflection at meaningful scale.
  • Measure traffic offload under real concurrency conditions.
  • Confirm playback safety and stability.
  • Ensure QoE remains within defined guardrails.
  • Assess integration complexity across player, platform, and operational ownership.
  • Confirm system compatibility with the delivery stack, including player, DRM, ads, and CDN.
  • Establish success criteria and a measurement framework.
  • Support production decision-making with clear rollout-readiness and ROI signals.
Out of scope
  • Replace CDN infrastructure. Rilla augments CDN delivery; it does not replace it.
  • Redesign the delivery architecture.
  • Validate full device coverage.
  • Serve as a production rollout.

POC success is defined before rollout begins: Rilla must meet agreed CDN deflection targets while playback and system metrics remain within acceptable thresholds.

CategoryMetrics and definitions
Cost and scale
  • CDN Deflection Rate (%): Percentage of video traffic delivered via the Peer Network.
  • CDN Offload (GB): Absolute reduction in CDN-delivered traffic.
Playback Stability and QoE Guardrails

Ensure no regression compared to a CDN-only baseline:

  • Startup Time (TTFF)
  • Rebuffer Rate
  • Session Drop Rate
  • Video Quality Stability
  • Glass-to-Glass Latency
  • Device Performance (CPU, memory, package size impact)
Peer Network Performance

Measure how effectively the network contributes capacity:

  • Peer Network Capacity: Total available peer-assisted bandwidth.
  • Participation Rate: Percentage of sessions successfully engaging in peer delivery.
  • Producer Rate: Percentage of sessions actively relaying data to others.
  • Network Stability: Impact of churn (joins and leaves) on delivery performance.

The POC produces clear answers to four rollout questions:

  • Can Rilla deliver meaningful CDN cost reduction at scale?
  • Does it maintain or improve playback quality under load?
  • Is integration viable within current systems and timelines?
  • Is the platform ready for phased or full production rollout?
